(An unpublished letter to the Baltimore Sun Editor submitted 10/17/2026)
I often find it fascinating and entirely disappointing that Marylanders, and specifically Baltimore voters, appear to completely ignore the Governor and Mayor’s hypocrisy.
The Spotlight on Maryland article (Marylanders Question Moore’s Campaign Record) in today’s Baltimore Sun offers a glimpse of hope. Finally, Baltimore-based astute social media influencers are speaking out about the numerous inconsistencies in political leadership messaging. A particularly egregious example is the headline messaging about the murder rate reductions ( still nearly three per week in 2025 – nothing to be proud of) while non-fatal shootings continue at historical rates and, most alarming, reported juvenile crime rises 55.1% from 2023-25.
Equally disappointing is the campaign rhetoric shell game regarding the fiscal health of both the state and city. While the state chooses to tax/fee its way out of its inability to control spending, the city is choosing to borrow its way out. All kicking the political can down the road so someone else must eventually face the dreadful reality.
The social influencers highlighted in the article are to be hailed as rising truth tellers hopefully finding increasing interest from the electorate in demands for many politically difficult but necessary actions that truly serve the people and their long term interests.
